Meet Brittany Charlton!
When she was 18, Brittany struggled with a serious peanut and tree nut allergy. With 1 in 13 Canadians affected by a food allergy, she recognized that there were limited allergen-free snacks in the market, and wanted to create something that she could enjoy for herself when with family and friends as well - and allow others to do the same.
After trying out a hot chocolate venture, it wasn’t until 2018, when her mother suggested that she share her other allergen-friendly recipes to the world. This marked the beginning of Ohh! Foods. With the support of her family and money saved from previous jobs, Ohh! Foods launched and the company received funding through awards from York University and competitions such as the CNE Emerging Innovators Pitch Competition. Being at YSpace, York University’s startup innovation hub, has also allowed her to establish her network and grow her business.
The Markham-based startup, Ohh! Foods, currently offers specialty cookie dough products, such as their birthday cake cookie dough, chocolate chip cookie dough, and coconut brownie bites, to name a few. The products are all allergen-free and raise awareness of #InclusiveSnacking, for those who are sensitive to certain food products or ingredients. You can find Ohh! Foods at local grocery stores like Sobeys, Metro, Healthy Planet, and Bed Bath & Beyond across the GTA, Mississauga, Brampton, and Vancouver B.C as well!
One of Brittany’s favourite quotes is, “Never allow waiting to become a habit. Live your dreams and take risks. Life is happening now. Don’t wait for the ‘right’ things to happen in your life, instead go after what you want with a purpose greater than yourself and take the risks that are needed”.
